Pat and I (Q) got up early and hoofed our way up to Avalanche Lake for the sunrise. Kind of a hole, so the lighting was a bit disappointing but it was a nice walk and nice weather. It sure was a beautiful little spot but a cold one as well. There was a nasty temperature inversion while we were here, I think there may have even been some frost. Certainly wouldn't be the warmest place in the winter.
During the hike back to camp we checked out some rushing water we had heard in the darkness during our upward journey. It turned out to be a lovely scalloped slot canyon. Since it wasn't too far from camp, we decided not to take pictures of it then, opting instead to go to camp, cook breakfast for the girls, and then hike over to canyon together. The girls had other ideas though - so no pictures this time.
