August Afternoon

Christina and I recently took a walk along Spur Road and had some beautiful scenery to gaze at. Southeast Alaska is truely a beautiful place... when the sun shines.

Color

This pictures were taken while hiking along the North Wrangell Trail. The variety of colors was amazing.

Many places along the forest floor are carpeted with miniture dogwood and their brilliant red berries at this time of the year.

Trip to the High Country

This is the North Wrangell Trail on the Spur Road side of the Island about halfway to my destination.

Looking down at a steep staircase. The snow finally melted and the railing could have gone up but it would have had to come right back down because the snows will be coming soon! There was still a couple patches of snow about 200 feet from here. That's Wrangell Peak in the distance (across from the airport). Speaking of Wrangell Peak, I flew around it a couple days ago and spotted a couple goat sitting on its flank.

Wide angle. I think it was about 12mm... Woronkofski Island takes up much of the left side of the frame with Zimovia Strait in front of it.

A squall approaches Vank Island. The cloud detail was really enjoyable while I was up here.

Sunset Series

Christina and I decided to take a walk on the sunset side of Wrangell because the sun was setting and it would get dark rapidly on spur road where we normally walk. As we drove closer to where we were going to park, Christina began to urge me to drive faster because of the lovely sunset. Here is one of the first shots she took immediately after we stopped.

Just after the sun slipped below the horizon. We used the wide angle lens for this one.

The virga (rain that does not reach the ground) enhanced the colors in these photos. The virga created a semi transparent orange band, similar to what a northern lights display may look like if they occured in sunsets.

Changing colors.

...Continued

This was the last shot of the colorful sunset.

There was a "salamander" (newt) in the middle of spur road that we came upon as we were hiking a few days ago.

Tigger is in a restful position. I used our 10-22mm lens on him to get a different effect. The lens was only inches away from his face when I snapped the picture.

Christina's Summer Vacation

This was actually the LAST part of my trip, but because it's late and I'm not thinking straight, the next few posts are out of order. You will see what happened last first and first last. Yeah...just want to keep me and everyone on their toes. Ha!

The first part of my vacation I spent in Michigan visiting family and friends. It was wonderful! (You'll see pictures below) The last few days of my trip I went to North Carolina and visited my brother, his wife, Jessica, and my nephew, Isaac.

The Cutest!!

Meet Isaac. He's our first and only nephew. This was my first time meeting him and I fell in love with him right away!! He's cute, he's funny, he's adorable, etc, etc, etc.

Isaac makes so many picturesque expressions.

Haha! So sweet!

Our bonding moment was sitting at a table at The Olive Garden. He would stick out his hand and point to me, so I would put my finger on his finger and wiggle it around. He would laugh and laugh. The next day I was able to capture our unique gesture on camera. I sure do miss this little guy.

Black & White

My camera assistant. He followed me around with my parent's camera and he was actually pretty good (from what I saw).

I love this picture of Amanda. I love the way her facial features really stand out in this picture. She's so beautiful!

One of the many pictures I have of Katie. I love capturing these kind of facial expressions. She's a doll!

Photo-genic

I was delighted to get out of the gray clouds and take pictures of my siblings, who are so full of color and life. Here are some pictures I took of them outside. We had a few different photo shoots. It was fun!

Here's Katie posing with her flowers. I have many more pictures like this.

Flowers

Not sure, this might actually be a weed, but I think it's purr-ty.

Fun in the SUN!

I was so excited to experience summer. Wrangell temperatures don't get very high, and not that I particularily enjoy the heat, but I did enjoy the beach!

We stopped after talking a walk around a trail. From left to right it is my sister Katie, my brother Jacob, me, and my sister Amanda. Beautiful smiles!

2007 Goat Hunt

This year I wanted to hunt the mountains on the North side of the Stikine and I wanted the weather to be nice so I could enjoy the scenery. Well, I have control over where I hunt but the weather... Checked the forecast before I left and we were supposed to have one nice day (our hike up) but the rest of the hunt was questionable. Started out on a Thursday and came back Sunday. The little notch on the left hand side of the photo was our route.

We were dropped off by Breakaway Adventures and hiked through brush and timber to this point.

After breaking through the brush we had a relatively easy time crawling up and around boulders along this steep stream.

Well, there goes the stream. At this point we had to start walking on the snow pack. I was warned not to walk in the middle where the stream hollows out the pack. Good advice, especially when looking at it from this perspective.
