Wall Street

Wall Street was very impressive to walk down. It was situated between two large rows of hoodoos. It had been closed for quite some time due to a rock fall but recently opened back up.

Last Light

The Peekaboo Trail winds its way through the hoodoos.

Crescent moon. Later on the moon would turn blood red as it set but unfortunately there was an opaque cloud in front of it obscuring the details.

Bryce Sunrise

We picked a different spot to watch the sunrise this morning and it was a much more visually intriguing place. This picture was taken before the sun moved above the horizon. Unfortunately there were only able to get brief glimpses of sunshine on the amphitheatre wall this morning.

The first faint brush of sunshine on a row of hoodoos.

Beautiful colors.

This was why we didn't get a lot of sunshine. It was still a pretty nice sunrise.

The Glen Canyon Dam

The dam itself.

The nearby bridge.

This was downstream a mile or two from the dam where there was a seep in a layer of rock. Enough water was coming out of the rock to produce hanging gardens and vegetation along the bank above the river.

The bridge is just barely discernible in front of the dam.

Rock Fire

The long road home.

We stopped when the sun suddenly broke through the clounds and illuminated the roadside hills. The contrast between the hills and sky was neat to see.

While we were there the dark sky would occasionally flash with a bolt of lightning.

This reminded me of the South Dakota badlands. Simply beautiful. There was also a row of what looked like cinder cones nearby.

Sunset

After taking the pictures of the rock and sky in the opposite direction, I turned around and snapped this one.

We watched lightning flashes from the storm on the horizon and finally caught up to it after going through Winslow. At times the rain slowed us to a crawl, but after about 15 minutes we were past it.

Standin' on the corner

"Standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona." I (Christina) didn't even know this existed until Sara mentioned it. She had seen something about it on tv. When she sang that part of the song to me I was like, "Oh yeah!!" Pat & Sara took this picture of us so I could show my dad because I know how much he likes the Eagles. I think the statue is supposed to be Don Henley (that's who that is, right Dad? Ha!) It was hilarious getting our picture taken with a statue.

Winslow Arizona

Hangin' out with the Eagles. On the corner in Winslow.

There was quite a memorial in this area. Right down to the "flat bed Ford" (just outside the picture). That Ford was parked but there is a girl in a flat bed Ford painted on the wall. They neglected to paint the tail lights so it is impossible to tell if it is slowing down.

Just across from the more famous corner, stands another corner vying for its spot in history.

Burma-Shave

The next sign in the series says "Burma-Shave."
We decided to go out of our way a little bit to take a drive on one of the most intact stretches of Historic Route 66 in the southwest. We got on near Ash Fork and drove to Kingman. Along the way we saw several different series of the Burma-Shave signs. They were all funny.

Route 66

Route 66, now Historic Route 66, with all its unique and somewhat dated architecture and signing. Earlier we passed the Route 66 Roadkill Cafe and several other similar shops.

Rear view on Rte 66.

We arrived at Hoover Dam at dusk. The four intakes stand up like guards at the dam. We didn't have a place to stay for the night so we took a quick look around and decided we would have to come back the next day after a refreshing night's sleep.
