Lights! 11.30.14

We brought the tree home, let it "drip dry" and then began to decorate the tree.  And of course we had to do our traditional Christmas lights photo with Jeralyn...and now Joshua.

But first Jeralyn had to try on her stocking.  Silly girl!

Josh thought the lights were really cool!  When he has something he really likes, he grunts and gives us this look like, "Isn't this cool?  Do you see what I have?  I am having fun!"

Tree Hunting 11.30.14

We had our first snow and that morning we went to find our Christmas tree.  It was perfect!  We had to walk around a bit more than we've had in the past to find a tree.  It was so beautiful in the snow.

Happy girl!

Held hands with my sweet girl and we walked along looking for our tree.

Sliding down a little slope.

Here we are posing with the already-cut tree.  Do you see Josh peeking over the backpack?

I don't remember what was funny...maybe Quent was doing funny things to get us to smile.

She enjoyed eating some snow.  I think she was showing Quent all of the snow stuck to her gloves.

Sweet boy!  He napped for a little bit while riding in the carrier.

Polly Pockets 11.29.14

I think I can safely say that right now one of Jeralyn's favorite toys to play with is Polly Pocket.  She likes to dress up her dolls and line them up.  There's some Frozen Barbie dolls in the mix here as well, and Shelly.

Hair Stylin' 11.28.14

I told Jeralyn she could do my hair.  She was pretty excited and then put lots and lots of barrettes in my hair.  So fun!

Forts 11.27.14

Jeralyn is really into building forts right now with blankets, chairs, or whatever she can find that will hold up blankets.  And of course all of the turtles join in on the fun as well.

Basket Full 11.26.14

He's SOOOO cute!!  He's just hanging out in a basket full of baby blankets and stuff animals.  Oh the life of an 8-month old.

Silliness 11.15.14

I don't remember what she was eating, but it looks like chocolate.  She doesn't really need a bib anymore, but there's moments.  Ha!  This was one of those moments!

Rice Cakes 11.15.14

This was Joshua's first time enjoying a rice cake.  I remember doing this with Jeralyn.  He likes it!  He's funny about certain textures right now, but he likes crunchy foods that melt in the mouth like Cheerios and rice cakes.

Camera 11.13.14

My brother made and sent Jeralyn a play wooden camera for her birthday.  I said I was going to bring my camera outside and she said she wanted to bring hers out as well.  My brother has an Etsy shop and you can find the camera here.

And she also likes to hoard Joshua's toys.  Isn't that what big sisters are for?  *wink*

And there's the cute baby in his new winter bunting.

Paula 11.12.14

Our friend Paula was in town, so we had her over for dinner.  She helped Jeralyn build her dinosaur puzzle.  I'm glad we live close enough to see our Wrangell friends.

Paper Towel Train 11.12.14

You know what happens when I don't get to put the paper towel and toilet paper away right away?  Jeralyn makes a train!  She was so proud of herself and said, "Look what I do!"  I just love this girl!

*Natasha, I think Jeralyn looks a LOT like you in this photo!

Gingerbread Baby 11.11.14

We borrowed a book from the library called The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett.  As usual, when Jeralyn likes a book, she asks me to read it over and over again.  When I mentioned that we could make our very own gingerbread man, she was ecstatic!  I didn't have a gingerbread man cookie cutter, so I had to buy one.

And then we made cookies...

I showed her an idea of how she could decorate the cookies.  She followed my example and then I think she wanted to use all of those little pink candies so she gave them extra buttons.  I don't think I took a picture of the end result.  She sure enjoyed it!

And now we have plans to make a gingerbread house with the leftover dough (which is frozen right now).  We will do that pretty soon.

Rice 11.7.14

Joshua tried rice for the first time.  It's SO messy and rice sticks to everything, but it's all part of getting my babies used to finger food.  I put it into clumps/balls onto their tray and then they can grab them with their fingers.  He liked it!

Sweet Girl 11.7.14

Box Painting 11.15.14

There's a super sweet children's TV show called Stella & Sam.  On one of the episodes, Stella paints a box.  Jeralyn asked if she could paint a box like Stella does.  I thought it was so cute that she thought of that.  She had a good time painting the box.

Fort 11.2.14

Jeralyn built a "fort" over Joshua while he was in his Jumperoo.  They both loved it!

Mmmm... 11.1.14

She loves licking the beaters!

Wake-Up 10.30.14

Joshua is (usually) super happy after waking.  He is always so happy to see us.  Sometimes Jeralyn climbs into his crib with him and entertains him while I get his bottle ready.  It's really cute because she can't wait to go and see the waking baby.

Super Cute Boy 10.30.14

Carving Pumpkins 10.29.14

Our neighbors asked if we would like to join them when they carved their pumpkins, so we did just that.  Jeralyn was much more interested in it this year, which was nice.  She scraped out as much of the pumpkin "guts" as she could and then I drew on a traditional jack-o-lantern face and carved it out.  She had fun spending time with Olivia and then we ate some cake with them afterwards.  Fun stuff!

Chocolate Crinkles 10.24.14

Jeralyn wanted to make some cookies, so I asked her what kind of cookies we should make.  She said we should make chocolate cookies.  So that's what we did.  We made one of Quent's favorite: chocolate crinkles.  She really seems to like baking.  She sits on the counter and helps me pour and mix the ingredients.  And then she always asks if she can lick the dough or batter.  She's a good helper!  It gets messy, but it's fun making memories with my girl!

Kiddos 10.22.14

I just love them!

Detroit Zoo 10.13.14

There's some photos that may be posted later that were taken between the dates of the last post and this one of Quent's time in Boston and my Instagram photos of when I was at my dad's house with the kids.  But for now, I will post these.

We had a day to ourselves since family was at work or school, so we spent the day at the Detroit Zoo.  We were really looking forward to taking Jeralyn to the zoo since we don't have a zoo in Ketchikan, unless you count the bears going through our garbage as a 'zoo'.  This was her second visit to a zoo, her first visit was when she was 16 months old when we were in California after Christmas, but she was sick that time and I don't think she remembers it.

And oh, how I wish I would have captured her reaction when she saw the first tortoise of the day.  For some reason there was a lone tortoise sharing an aquarium with some creature in the amphibian building and so I wasn't prepared with my phone to take a video.  Her reaction was PRICELESS!  This girl LOVES turtles!

One of favorite exhibits was the polar bear/seals.  We spot seals all of the time in the ocean, but it was really fun to see them playing underwater.  The tunnel was super cool!

The grizzly bear was hilarious.  I said, "We aren't in Alaska anymore."  The poor bear was so bored looking.  He needed something to chase or some garbage to paw through (just kidding--well, maybe).

There was a baby giraffe born the week before, so it was so fun to see the baby with its mommy.  Daddy giraffe came over at one point and gave the baby a kiss.  So sweet!  It's amazing how they are up and walking around right away.

Jeralyn was surprisingly excited to see the rhinos.  It was disappointing though because there are no elephants at the Detroit Zoo anymore.  There was a sign explaining why, and they moved the elephants because the environment wasn't working out for them.

This is some kind of bear...I forget the name.  It looks more like a fox to me.  It was so cute!

Because it was Halloween time, they had these fun exhibits where different organizations had fun decorating pumpkins, gourds, and such things to make scenes.  This is one from Despicable Me of the Minions.  Cute!

Wolverine!

Outside of the reptile building there was this tortoise statue that Jeralyn loved (of course!).

Happy girl riding a tortoise.

And I think it's funny that I know so much about and know that there's a difference between turtles and tortoises now.  Who would have thought?!

There were a couple of big turtles in a big aquarium that she really enjoyed watching.

We really enjoyed our time at the zoo.  And it was perfect because there weren't many people at all and even though it was overcast, it didn't rain.  I'm so glad we took the time to go!  Jeralyn is watching me post these pictures and she is all excited seeing the photos and she's talking about the zoo.  I love making memories!  Now we'll have to go again someday so Joshua can remember.
