Playing cars 2.22.16

So thankful that Joshua has learned how to play all by himself at times because it needs to happen at times now with 3 kiddos.  Someone has to wait at times...and it just depends on the situation.  I love finding him in his room, playing with his cars or trains.  He will often line up his cars on the floor or on his bed, lay down and roll them around.  It's so sweet!  Love this little guy!  Although, he doesn't seem to little anymore.

Eyes open 2.21.16

It's always so exciting when we can see a newborn's eyes!

Baby Love 2.19.16

My (Christina's) mom came to visit and meet baby Joel.  Here she was feeding Joel a bottle...

Jeralyn wasn't impressed because she wanted to feed Joel.  Cough.  That expression!!  Ha!

Compromising...

And she finishes it off!  Happy girl and happy baby!

Aunt Natasha 2.18.16

This girl...she's amazing!  She was like my personal chef.  She cleaned, she cooked, she baked, she changed diapers...  I'm SO thankful for her help and her friendship!

Joel's first photo shoot 2.17.16

We love our baby Joel!  These photos were taken with the birth announcement in mind.

Big yawn!

Little hands!

10 little toes!

He's just perfect!  Here is he laying on the quilt I made him.

Baby Joel Comes Home 2.15.16

Actually, we came home from the hospital on Valentine's Day. We stayed as long as we could at the hospital for some much-needed rest.  I was ready to come home at the end of our stay, which is a good thing.

The first two times Olivia held Joel, he cried.  I guess she was the special one.  Ha!

And so it begins...my life with 2 boys...

...and 3 kids!

Baby  Joel sleeping in the bouncer while his siblings bounce around him.  Good thing newborns sleep through everything!

Joel Elias 2.12.16

My water broke at 10:30 pm on Thursday, February 11th.  We wasted no time and left for the hospital.  The first 4 hours of labor was accompanied by mild contractions.  Lots of walking in the hall and talking to the nurses (which never happened with the other two labors).  The last 2 hours  (6 hours of labor total) were pretty crazy and intense...so when baby boy was born at 4:13 am, I was SO happy!!  Joel Elias was 7lb 4oz and 20 inches long--my smallest baby!

Quent took these first 3 photos while I was in labor.

Easy part of labor.  Ha!

I was texting family and friends letting them know it was happening.  We requested the Seal Pup room.  I've had all 3 kids in this room.  I thought that was cool!

Sweet little boy!

My friend Samantha holding Joel.

Jeralyn was so excited to meet her brother.  She brought Shelly and her own suitcase.  She brought us lots and lots of pictures she colored for us.  Joshua didn't get to come while I was in the hospital because he was getting over a cold.  I was bummed about that, but it was for the best.

And then for tradition's sake, Jeralyn ate my apple.  She did this after Joshua was born, too.  She remembered doing this and we talked about her coming and eating my apple weeks before I was due.  Such a great memory she has!

39 weeks 2.7.16

A week before my due date...and we finally took some pregnancy photos.  Oops!

And our little cutie pie!

Carlanna Lake 1.31.16

It's been awhile since we've posted...and you may be confused with all of the out of order posting.  And we will just confuse you even more.  Quent and I have our own cameras, so there will be more posts that are out of order.

This was the recent photos from Quent's photos that are next in line chronologically.  I have some pictures to post that happened earlier in January...but that will have to wait for another time.

So Natasha (Quent's sister) came for a month long visit starting from the end of January.  She came a couple of weeks before my due date.

Quent took Jeralyn and Natasha on a hike up the Carlanna Lake trail.  Looks like it was fun!

Looking at the lake from above the dam.

Jeralyn laughing.

She's so much fun!

Big, huge rainforest trees!

Big tree!  Jeralyn and Natasha are the scale to show the size of some of these trees.

I have no idea where she's at here. (Quent?)

Our little climber.

Ice Cave 7.23.13

For a long time I thought I had added these to the blog but realized recently that these were never added.  Guess that's what happens when I take a few years off of blogging.  These photos are of the Mendenhall Glacier a few years ago.  This particular cave has since collapsed but others are now accessible - or so I hear.

Part of the impetus for blogging these came from Andrew, a friend of mine who I was climbing with earlier today.  He was telling me about climbing in this area years ago shortly after the glacier had left this rock bare.

That mountain in the center of the background is Mount Wrather.  Nate and I skied, rock climbed, ice climbed, and boot packed to the top of the peak from the Mendenhall parking lot a few years back and then proceeded to ski down.

Yipee!  Sunshine on the distant mountains.  And the entrance to the ice cave.

Another reason I decided to blog these tonight was because I had promised some ice cave pictures to a co-worker and then when I prepared to place them on a USB drive I realized that they were all at the office.  So instead I got stuck blogging them.  Thanks Carol!

The sculpted and intricate ice caves like this are formed when a section of glacier stops its forward advance and a stream over time hollows out a channel in the stagnant ice and then the "warm" air starts contributing to the melting.

A bulbous formation.

Ice screw track up close.

The photographer.  Took a few tries to stay still enough for the long exposure.

This tributary met a much larger stream ahead and it looks like the ice had collapsed or a crevasse had formed above letting in the light.

Looking out toward the cave's entrance.

I should probably mention that ice caves can be dangerous due to collapsing ice.  Human nature dictates that photos must be taken at the entrance/exit of caves.  Unfortunately the thin ice roof at the entrance of the cave also happens to be the most dangerous part of the trip.  So don't succumb to the temptation!  Keep away from the thin ice near the entrance as much as possible.
