The next 12 pictures are slightly out of order but they are still pretty. This picture was taken as I was leaving Juneau, unfortunately there was some reflection from the airplane window, a consequence of the beautiful sunny day.
Douglass Island and beyond.
North of Petersburg about 10miles or so.
Petersburg lies on the flat terrain on the left side of the picture.

Wednesday, March 15, view of the Mendenhall Glacier taken from Mendenhall Glacier. The wind was so strong I was almost blown off the pile of gravel I was trying to stand on. Ended kneeling down and holding on. Not sure how strong that particular gust was but probably around 50 mph or so. Very cold when coupled with 5 degree temperatures.
Shelter from the cold is why I am so happy to find a sheltered area to warm my face and fingers. My shelter is an iceburg that is frozen into Mendenhall Lake.
The glacier in the daylight. Bet you can't find my "shelter burg" from the previous day.
This is what happens to airplanes when they go to heaven.

Monday, March 13, I had the afternoon to explore the Juneau country side. Managed to get up into some steep terrain all in the name of a good picture but couldn't get above the cliff band above this point. Pretty steep just looking down.
Edge habitat. This appears to be a selective cut above a clearcut just above the Fred Meyer store.
Mendenhall Glacier in the evening.
Nugget falls. Hard to grasp the scale and size. Very impressive in person. The next day I saw two goats just beyond this falls.

The next four pictures were taken at sunset on March 11, 2006. This is the view of Etolin Island down Zimovia Strait taken from the city dock.Another picture from city dock, this time looking slightly north of Zarembo Island (Zarembo is on the left hand side of the picture).
The spur road and Berg mountain with the last brushes of sunlight for the evening.
Moon over Alaska.

I planned on hiking up to the high country shelter to view the sunrise but didn't even come close. The 2.5 feet of snow that I was sinking through at the first muskeg kept me from moving forward. Still a nice view.

This is what I look like after getting up at 3:15am and starting a hike at 3:45am. The picture was taken about 6:30 am. I didn't think it looked bad but Christina laughed at my other attemps (not shown) of getting a picture of myself.

The three primary peaks you see in this picture are from left to right are Virginia (3760'), Helen (about 3800), and Bessie (3915').

Tracks and gear. I had to put on my skis because there was way too much snow to wade through. Should have brought snowshoes.

March 10, 2006 about 6:25 am. That's why they call it sunrise peak. And this is why I love Alaska. The mountain lit up in a blaze of orange sunlight and I decided to stay home an extra 15 minutes and just enjoy the scenery. The picture was taken from our second story deck. Posted by Picasa

Oops!

It's been a little while since we've posted anything (besides the 2 pictures below). Our camera was sent away for repair (and wouldn't you know that the whole week our camera was gone that we had the most GORGEOUS weather we've had so far in Wrangell?). I have no other excuses otherwise. Ok, maybe one excuse would be because we were away for a month in December/January and there were no mountains to capture. Ha! We'll try our very best to update this blog more often. Posted by Picasa
See Dad, the sun does shine in Wrangell. Haha!
This is what Wrangell looks like from the top of Mt.Dewey. This was a BEAUTIFUL Alaskan day!
