Fall in love 10.12.09

We both just love fall!  We really miss the fall colors that the midwest gets to see each year.  Southeast Alaska has color, but you have to look for it.  Every colored leaf gets our attention, even if the colors are in smaller amounts.  With hopes of capturing some of that color, we drove to Ward Cove and down the road past Harriet Lake, and up a mountain.  It reminded me of Spur Road in Wrangell (which I miss so much!)  It was a perfect clear day!

These are fireweed way past their prime.  Fireweed is a good measuring tool of how much summer is left by how far up the flowers have bloomed on each stalk.  When they are completely bloomed we know we can soon kiss our summer days goodbye.  So these are definitely saying, "Summer is over!  Totally!"  No questions asked!
