Evening Rainbow

Shortly after we arrived home after a movie, we noticed some sunlight shining on the mountains. It had been overcast that evening, so we were excited to see the light. Quent asked if I would like to go to the beach to take some pictures. As we walked outside to get into our vehicle, we both noticed a rainbow. As we drove down the road we saw that it was a whole bow right over Wrangell! It was amazing!!! We stopped at the ferry terminal and Quent took these pictures.

It was a double rainbow!!

Beautiful Sunset

We have been blessed by so many beautiful sunsets in Wrangell. This sunset was definitely one of the best we have seen. The bright colors were so radiant. It was like fire in the sky. The day came to a perfect close as the last rays of light found their way through the clouds. We found our way to Petroglyph Beach and captured the beauty.

Outside

I took the afternoon off because it was so nice. Plus I imagine I would have been distracted by the weather even if I did stay at the office. So Christina and I went for a drive and this was taken at the overlook rock pit. The narrows, Earl West and the shoulder of Berg Mountain are visible behind her.

After tromping around the coutryside during the afternoon, I decided to go skiing and started up the mountain at about 6:30pm. I found this flower at the very top in a somewhat surprising spot on a cliff without snow. After taking this photo, I turned to the left an took the two shots below.

The remains of a cornice.

Proof that I went skiing on June 19. I keep hearing rumors of people claiming that the snow has never stayed this late, and that this is the most snow we've had in their lifetime, etc. Well I'm here to tell them that there was more snow last year. I walked a number of bare spots that I skied last June 22. In fact, at roughly 1500 feet (the current snow line) there is 3-4 feet less snow than there was last year. That said, there is still a lot of snow, which makes me happy.

The Last Two

I stuck around and watched the sun set before hopping into my bindings and skiing down the mountain.

The colors hung in the sky for a long time. Even an hour after this shot, the sunset colors were still visible on the horizon. I love these Alaskan summers.

I happened to spot this spider web next to the trail. Can you spot the spider?

Nice Day for a Hike

It was nice to be back in Alaska after spending so much time away from home. I teamed up with a few other locals and took a hike along the Rainbow Falls trail. This particular hiker tired out after a little over a mile of boardwalk. I was impressed at its athletic ability.

Another waterfall or two.

The misty rain that we had earlier left its sign on this plant.

Oh Deer!

I (Christina) was up in the loft scrapbooking when I saw some movement outside the window downstairs. It was a deer! We live in town, so this was unusual to see. So I grabbed the camera to prove that I really did see this buck in our backyard! After a little while it walked down our driveway. It was so weird! I guess this deer and another have been seen in other places in town, too.

Michigan Vacation

We took a trip to Michigan for about 3 weeks to visit family and friends. We really enjoyed our time there, but wish we were able to spend more time with everyone. It's always hard to pack so much visiting into so little time.

Playing Frisbee

One of the first things we did after the kids came home from school was we played frisbee. It was a lot of fun!

Funny Faces

I think I (Christina) took too many funny face pictures and not enough serious pictures. These are fun though!

The moose...

The 3 little pigs...

The...I don't know...but they are trying to be scary!

The Swan

A lake near Christina's dad's house had some swans. Quent went out early in the morning to take some pictures.
