Denali HWY 4

The rainbows were spectacular! We kept on getting little rain squalls.

That's fireweed on the left; what a beautiful picture Quent took!

A moose we saw just before turning into our campground.

Tangle Lakes Morning

We woke up to a bright and sunny morning. The inside of the tents were warm from the sun. Quent and I got up, went on a walk, and then Quent and Pat picked blueberries for pancakes.

Quent flipping a pancake. It was quite breezy this morning so we were bundled up.

Yum! We were so excited to have pancakes *with* butter and syrup.

Christina coming out of the tent.

Between breakfast and lunch we went on a short walk down this trail. It was a wet trail, so we didn't go too far.

Squishy Mud

We stopped along the road because the scenery was beautiful and we needed to stretch.

The water was so beautiful!

Quent showed us how to stomp on the soil/dirt/mud (whatever you call it). It was really interesting. The mud would soften without breaking the surface. Sara said it was like quicksand. It was fun to play with.

Before this picture was taken I asked Quent if he would take a picture of me in front of the fall colors. Pat & Sara started to laugh. I agreed that it was pathetic to a midwestern person for me to call that "fall colors", but I'll take what I can get. Ha!

Alyeska Pipeline

It was so neat to see the pipeline because it's something I remember learning about in school. What an amazing engineering masterpiece!

Here Pat was explaining to us how the pipeline moves in case of an earthquake.

If you were receiving a dividend check every year because of this pipeline, wouldn't you be doing the same? Haha!

Moose & Pipeline

We were driving down the road when Pat suddenly saw a moose in this pond. We turned around and quietly walked down to the water to get some pictures of it. It was so neat to see her in the water because it's what you think you should see when you drive by ponds in Alaska.

Finger Mountain

I don't think you can see Finger Mountain in this picture. We didn't really get any "great" photos of the "finger". It points toward Fairbanks.

The humans we brought along are providing their own fingers...but they aren't pointing toward Fairbanks.

Arctic Circle

We were pleasantly surprised to find it rather warm on the Arctic Circle and the bugs weren't bad at all. (We are still trying to figure out if the bugs are *that* bad in the summer in the interior. Being that we are from the midwest, we have seen MANY evil swarms of mosquitos in Michigan and Wisconsin--so either what we hear about AK bugs aren't really that bad or we missed the worst part. But then again, we read that mosquitos are known to keep the herds of caribou moving along the tundra.)

The back of the Arctic Circle sign. I told Quent that we should have brought a sticker to plaster to the sign and be like the rest of the tourists. Haha!

Hmmm...

By this time the truck was VERY VERY dirty!! Quent was having fun writing on the truck. (Sorry Nate!)
