There's some photos that may be posted later that were taken between the dates of the last post and this one of Quent's time in Boston and my Instagram photos of when I was at my dad's house with the kids. But for now, I will post these.
We had a day to ourselves since family was at work or school, so we spent the day at the Detroit Zoo. We were really looking forward to taking Jeralyn to the zoo since we don't have a zoo in Ketchikan, unless you count the bears going through our garbage as a 'zoo'. This was her second visit to a zoo, her first visit was when she was 16 months old when we were in California after Christmas, but she was sick that time and I don't think she remembers it.
And oh, how I wish I would have captured her reaction when she saw the first tortoise of the day. For some reason there was a lone tortoise sharing an aquarium with some creature in the amphibian building and so I wasn't prepared with my phone to take a video. Her reaction was PRICELESS! This girl LOVES turtles!
One of favorite exhibits was the polar bear/seals. We spot seals all of the time in the ocean, but it was really fun to see them playing underwater. The tunnel was super cool!
The grizzly bear was hilarious. I said, "We aren't in Alaska anymore." The poor bear was so bored looking. He needed something to chase or some garbage to paw through (just kidding--well, maybe).
There was a baby giraffe born the week before, so it was so fun to see the baby with its mommy. Daddy giraffe came over at one point and gave the baby a kiss. So sweet! It's amazing how they are up and walking around right away.
Jeralyn was surprisingly excited to see the rhinos. It was disappointing though because there are no elephants at the Detroit Zoo anymore. There was a sign explaining why, and they moved the elephants because the environment wasn't working out for them.
This is some kind of bear...I forget the name. It looks more like a fox to me. It was so cute!
Because it was Halloween time, they had these fun exhibits where different organizations had fun decorating pumpkins, gourds, and such things to make scenes. This is one from Despicable Me of the Minions. Cute!
Wolverine!
Outside of the reptile building there was this tortoise statue that Jeralyn loved (of course!).
Happy girl riding a tortoise.
And I think it's funny that I know so much about and know that there's a difference between turtles and tortoises now. Who would have thought?!
There were a couple of big turtles in a big aquarium that she really enjoyed watching.
We really enjoyed our time at the zoo. And it was perfect because there weren't many people at all and even though it was overcast, it didn't rain. I'm so glad we took the time to go! Jeralyn is watching me post these pictures and she is all excited seeing the photos and she's talking about the zoo. I love making memories! Now we'll have to go again someday so Joshua can remember.
