I caught Jeralyn looking through some books that were on her floor. I think she'll like books just like her parents! She's starting to become more interested in them and will spend a lot of time looking through some of her board books.

First Overlook 5.5.12
I suggested that we take a hike up the trail a bit on Deer Mountain. Quent was all for that! So with a little bit of planning, we packed up the baby, some food for her, and headed up the trail. I'm not sure how many miles it is up to the first overlook or the elevation, but it's a great workout! We were warm from the hike, but the breeze was cold. We stopped at the first overlook to feed Jeralyn some banana and Cheerios.
Wake up time! 5.4.12
Jeralyn had just woke up from her nap and she was pretty happy, so I grabbed the camera:
She's starting to sit up on her knees. It's time to lower the crib mattress. And then this morning (5.7.12) I noticed bit marks on one of the crib railings. Oh dear! I told Quent that she must be part beaver.
Such a happy girl!
Yummy! 5.3 and 5.4.12
She's getting so good at eating the food from off her tray!
I think she was eating cottage cheese in this picture.
She loves banana! I think it's her favorite food.
Well, actually, I think blueberries are her new favorite now. She can't seem to get enough of them, but I do limit them because I don't want them to upset her tummy. I love the Cheerio stuck to her chin!
This is a funny face, but I wanted to show a close-up of her purple hands from eating blueberries.
Play time 5.2.12
She was waving to me in this photo.
She never used a pacifier because she had this super awesome gag reflex. But I'm glad she never got used to a pacifier because it sounds like it's hard to stop. So now she thinks they are toys or something to chomp on for teething.
Ward Lake 4.30.12
Before we dropped Quent's mom at the airport ferry, we took a quick stroll around Ward Lake. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't the greatest while she was with us, but we were happy to have a chance to show her a little bit of Ketchikan.
Jeralyn was peeking her head out of the rain cover. So cute! I guess she wanted to see what was up ahead!

Instagram April 22-May 2, 2012
She was putting her stuffed animals into the cat carrier, and then she would take them out and kiss them. But that fun was short lived when she started biting the door and then crying. Oops!
I put all of her clean clothes in the basket with her and told her she had to fold them. Haha!
Grandma Smith made a German recipe called Kuchen. It's like a danish, about 8 inches round. Very good!
Oatmeal 5.1.12
The morning after I surrendered the spoon (see previous post), I decided to experiment. I put the baby oatmeal right on her tray. And as you can guess, it was very messy! But she got right in there with her hands and put globs of it into her mouth. Silly fun!
Grandma Smith April 29-30, 2012
Quent's mom came down for a visit from Juneau (where she was visiting Nate (Quent's brother), Annie, Jackson, and baby Aurora). It was a short, but very sweet visit! Poor Jeralyn was dealing with a bout of diaper rash, so she wasn't herself, but she was feeling better toward the end of Grandma's visit.
Jeralyn was very curious about Grandma's glasses.
So curious that she had to touch.
So Grandma put the glasses on her! Ha!
There was some tickling going on here.
And some wet baby kisses!
And some lip pulling!
We miss you, Grandma! xoxo

Eating a pear 4.26.12
We are phasing out spoon-feeding and going onto more messy ways of eating. She has been eating pureed foods from a spoon for 3.5 months now. She's letting me know she's not interested in the spoon anymore. So now I'm doing what is called "baby led weaning", or as some like to call it, "baby led solids". I put a few things on her tray and let her decide. It's MUCH easier than coaxing her to eat from the spoon! It's messy, but fun to watch. When she first starts eating, she will put the food to her lips and it's like the test to see if she wants to actually put it into her mouth. Sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't.
This day I gave her a whole pear just for fun. She enjoyed this! I didn't phase out spoon feeding at this point, but a few days later I surrendered. Ha! I don't regret spoon-feeding her the first few months. I would do it that way all over again.
8 Months! 4.24.12
It's hard to believe 8 months have already passed since Jeralyn's birth date. And it's really hard to believe that in 4 months she will be a year old! My baby is growing so fast!
