All about the sign

After such a peaceful evening and night at the Arctic Circle, we were rudely awakened by the *other* tourists visiting the parking lot. We heard buses, motorcyles, and other vehicles pull up while we were in our tents thinking about getting up.

Arctic Morning

The camp cooks; Quent and Pat did the cooking on this trip. Sara and I decided that we are clueless when it comes to camp cooking. (At least that's our excuse) We had a hearty breakfast of non-typical camp foods such as scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon.

Pat and Quent probably discussing something important. Ha! Sara and I wore headnets. The bugs weren't bad at all, but the few that were sticking around were annoying enough for us to look classy for the tour buses pulling up to get their pictures taken in front of the sign.

This gray jay was brave! It kept on flying down to the low branches around our table and even onto the table to see if we had any crumbs for it. We thought it was hilarious when it landed on top of the frying pan. It was almost part of our breakfast!

All of us in front of the very popular sign.

Coldfoot

Coldfoot is a very small town. The pictures below are some of the buildings and signs that accompany the town. We also visited the visitor's center (not pictured) which was very nice. We were looking forward to seeing this town a couple of days later for showers.

Quent took this super beautiful picture of the Brooks Range!

The fall colors of the tundra were beautiful!

The pipeline...again.

Haha! Now we are just being funny!

All of us with the very dirty truck and beautiful mountains in the background. This was just before we turned south on the highway heading to Fairbanks.

Wiseman, Frost and & Coldfoot

This is the old post office in Wiseman, Alaska. It's also a good example of why it's not always good to build on permafrost.

Frost on our Nalgene bottle showing that the temperatures were quite low that night.

Good ole Coldfoot. We were thrilled to take showers and to be clean again!

Neat old building in Coldfoot.

Gold Dredge 1a

On our way down to Fairbanks we stopped at the Gold Dredge No. 8 and went on a tour of the dredge. The tour had these really corny videos as part of the tour, but our tour guide seemed very knowledgable.

I like the part about the shorts!

Christina spied a flower...

And some more flowers.
