The next four pictures were taken at sunset on March 11, 2006. This is the view of Etolin Island down Zimovia Strait taken from the city dock.Another picture from city dock, this time looking slightly north of Zarembo Island (Zarembo is on the left hand side of the picture).

I planned on hiking up to the high country shelter to view the sunrise but didn't even come close. The 2.5 feet of snow that I was sinking through at the first muskeg kept me from moving forward. Still a nice view.


This is what I look like after getting up at 3:15am and starting a hike at 3:45am. The picture was taken about 6:30 am. I didn't think it looked bad but Christina laughed at my other attemps (not shown) of getting a picture of myself.


The three primary peaks you see in this picture are from left to right are Virginia (3760'), Helen (about 3800), and Bessie (3915').

Tracks and gear. I had to put on my skis because there was way too much snow to wade through. Should have brought snowshoes.

 

March 10, 2006 about 6:25 am. That's why they call it sunrise peak. And this is why I love Alaska. The mountain lit up in a blaze of orange sunlight and I decided to stay home an extra 15 minutes and just enjoy the scenery. The picture was taken from our second story deck.

It's been a little while since we've posted anything (besides the 2 pictures below). Our camera was sent away for repair (and wouldn't you know that the whole week our camera was gone that we had the most GORGEOUS weather we've had so far in Wrangell?). I have no other excuses otherwise. Ok, maybe one excuse would be because we were away for a month in December/January and there were no mountains to capture. Ha! We'll try our very best to update this blog more often. 

See Dad, the sun does shine in Wrangell. Haha!

This is what Wrangell looks like from the top of Mt.Dewey. This was a BEAUTIFUL Alaskan day!

I may be in a cloud but my trusty skis are beside me. The light isn't too bad now but later it became just about the flattest light I have skied in. November 26, 2005. Same day as the next picture. Difference is two hours and about 2200'. Note the snow up to the bindings on the skis, about 25 inches.

Skis... Check! Poles.... Check! Snow.... Check! Just need some climbing gear to get to the top of the trees where the snow resides.

November 5, 2005. Time to ski. Picture was taken from the North Wrangell High Country Shelter, elevation about 2600'.

North Wrangell High Country Shelter was getting some use when I took this picture Saturday afternoon, October 29. Most of the earlier snow had melted but new snow was falling fast.
