Moose & Swans

This moose was enjoying some dinner...until it noticed us spying on it.

The swans were fun to watch. I believe there were 6 swans in this body of water.

Fox & Scenery

We spotted this beautiful fox in the road. Some car had stopped and threw bread onto the road for it. It was a little upsetting to us...especially for Christina. "Do not feed the wildlife!" I repeat, "Do not feed the wildlife!"

The scenery was so beautiful! This was near Tok and the Tok River.

Fishing

After we found the campground and picked out a campsite we drove down the road to a river to find a great fishing spot.

To Valdez

We stopped at a glacier along the highway. Sara was pretty excited about this. Quent, Pat, and Sara hiked up to the glacier and walked on it a bit.

Valdez

The last place we visited on our trip was Valdez. It's a neat town right on the ocean. Unfortunately, we missed some really great photo opportunities of a brown bear (grizzly) feasting on salmon. The salmon were swimming up stream to spawn; there were SO many fish in the water. The water looked like it was boiling because there were so many fish! We drove down the road and noticed a "Bear Crossing" sign on the side of the road. We got out of the truck and walked around looking at the fish in the water. Quent and I walked over to the fish hatchery to look at the salmon ladder. We were over there for a little while and noticed that a bear had crossed the road and was in the water right off shore from the parking lot where the truck was parked. We walked back over the bridge and back to the parking lot. The bear was slowly moving down the shore more toward where we were. We were one of the crazy "tourists" watching the bear, but we were ready to get back to the truck if needed. All of a sudden the bear ran up the shore, past all of us, over the bridge where we were just walking, and over to the hatchery. The bear was walking/running right where we just were. We were saying how much of a surprise that would have been if were were still over there. Whew! Pat & Sara had their camera...we left ours in the hotel room. Oops!


The next day, before leaving Valdez we ventured over to the museum.

Heading to Anchorage

The first 2 pictures were some of the last pictures we took on our way to Anchorage with Pat & Sara.

Nathan's Place

We were able to spend some time with Nathan at his place. In the morning we caught sight of these moose drinking out of the pond just outside Nathan's place.

Leaving on a Jet Plan...well...not quite

This was taken right before we left to go to the airport. We arrived at the airport, said goodbye to Nathan, and then we went inside to check-in. Turns out we didn't know of the time change of our flight, so we had to rebook for the next day. So we called Nathan and asked him if we could borrow his truck for another day. What a brother!! We were so thankful for his hospitality.

Quent and I spent some time in Anchorage and then drove up to Hatcher's Pass. This is Christina enjoying the view of the river and rocks.

Independence Mine Part 1

We drove up toward Palmer/Wasilla to Independence Mine near Hatcher's Pass. The mine's facilities were closed, but we were more interested in walking around and taking pictures of the site. The old buildings were fun to take pictures of. There was a light rain at this point, but that didn't stop us.
